Meet the Founder & CEO
The Johnsons & Leola Anifowoshe
Leola Anifowoshe - Successful, determined, and devoted to her customers and community, Leola Anifowoshe is the epitome of a self-made woman. Her aptitude for business became evident at an early age, when she hosted her first successful neighborhood carnival at the young age of twelve. As time progressed, Anifowoshe’s studies made her a successful graduate of Jack Yates Senior High School and she majored in Business and minored in the Social Sciences at the University of Houston. Her many talents allowed her to own and operate a prominent real estate and mortgage firm. Later, her interests brought her to own and operate an upscale, retail African arts and gift store, which was across the street from the famous Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas.
These varied business experiences helped to develop Anifowoshe’s significant entrepreneurial abilities. Her devotion to God and desire to help others in need led her to not only to found many organizations, but to be an active volunteer as well. She has been a volunteer since she was ten years old and travelled to many parts of the United States with her activist blind grandparents as a tour guide for the blind. This led her to love helping charities at a very young age. Some of the organizations that she founded herself include a private foundation created in 1997 called Keep Kids In School, Inc. of which she is the Executive Director. In 2008, she created Shoes4School.org and has since given away in excess of ten thousand pairs of shoes, backpacks and school supplies to children in need. Among her many other talents, Anifowoshe is also an accomplished motivational speaker and writer, having published three e-books.
She is also the Houston Spa and Salon Examiner. Currently, Anifowoshe devotes much of her time to her position as the founder and CEO of the Natural Healthy Hair Society, which is an organization dedicated to providing information and resources about healthy hair and skin care from a holistic perspective.
Fueled by a desire to find out what makes hair grow, Anifowoshe discovered that information on the correlation between nutrition and hair care was lacking. Thus, she became fully educated on the topic and is now a Healthy Hair and Skin Health Advisor. In this position, she consults with women to inform them of the health supplements that are available to assist them in their quest for anti-aging and successful hair growth. As part of her organization, she also hosts America's Next Top Healthy Hair Stylist and America's Top Natural Hair Stylist competitions. These competitions help to recognize and reward hair stylists who promote healthy hair.
Lastly, no stranger to beauty, fashion and culture, this former 5’10” model, business owner also created a non-traditional beauty pageant called the Lil Miss Happy Headed™ contest, a pageant created especially for African American girls between the ages of 5 and 12 (inspired by her own 3 daughters) that encourages them to embrace their curly hair from an early age. Anifowoshe is happily married with six beautiful children. She is currently living in Houston, Texas and can be reached at [email protected].
